Enabling Windows Installer in SafeMode

Discussion:
Some applications utilize Windows Installer to properly install themselves. By default, this service is not available when booted into Safe Mode.

Resolution:
Ask the customer to Download safemsi.zip and run it in safe mode. After this has run, you should be able to have the customer install software such as a spyware removal application with ease. If the customer is not able to download the file, you may edit the registry using one of the methods below:

· Ask the customer to follow the Microsoft KB Article ID 895141: It says Windows Server 2003, but it is still applicable to XP/Vista

· (Have customer use the manual method) - You may direct the customer to go to Start>Run. Type "cmd" Type REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\ Network\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service" and press enter.

· Type net start msiserver and press enter.
